Doing the Wrong Thing For the Right Reason?

In all three of our historical fiction novels, we see characters do things that we would consider "wrong," like lying and stealing. We also see that there are circumstances that seem to make what they are doing okay. 1) When, if ever, is it okay to do the "wrong" thing? 2) Who decides whether it is right or wrong? Answer both parts to this question, then share your thinking as you would in a Reading Response.

    1)It is okay to do the wrong thing if it doesn't hurt anybody other then yourself because if your doing the "wrong" thing in the first place its shouldn't matter if it might hurt you because it is your choice.
    2)The individual decides whether its is right or wrong. Each person knows if it is right or wrong it is just there decision if they want to do the right or wrong thing.

    I think that Misha and Uri are starting to feel like close friends because you would think that Uri would have an easier time living, without having to worry about Misha.

    it is okay to do the wrong thing but if they are hurt it is not okay like how it was okay that misha stole a loaf of bread i think that was okay
    because she was rich and she could have bought two more for here self

    why do you think they are hitting the poeple in the consintrshin camp with clubs and things just
    for not standing straght.

    1)it is okay to do the wrong thing if it is for a good cause. like stealing food and black pearls for the orphans like misha.
    2) doctar korczak thinks it is very nice and okay for misha to steal food and black pearls for the orphans like i said it is okay to do the wrong thing if it is for a good cause.

    lydia i think you are right about misha and uri being close friends.

    1) it is okay to do the wrong thing if its for a good reason and only if it is for a good reason. Like the Tar man steals food and some other stuff just to not to starve. This is a good reason to do the "wrong"thing.

    2) I think the writer decides because they would say like the person would go to jail and a really good friend would tell the person.

    HIPIS! this is awsome now we are geting to the action beatings, shooting, smuggling, trouble, nazis, hitler, the ghetto. mishas life has become harder than it was he has to keep alive him self the orphans, janinah, and her family. will he sucseed or will he end.

    Great question Mr. Coleman
    1)It is ok to do wrong things if it is for the right reason. For Example like how the tar man stole food so he could survive. That is a good reason too but if it is just because you want to that is not a good reason
    2)You decide. It is your decision. You know what is good for you or bad for you.

    In Gideon i think that Gideon did what the tar man got accused of. i think that because there is this hatred between them. And also it said that Gideon did something bad when he was little. Does anybody else think that?

    I think that peter and kate are becoming close. And in the end they are going to know everything about eachother. Sometimes when u are in trouble with someone it brings you closer. I also think that at the end they will be best friends.

    If its cause its a life or death situation or if you don't do it on purpose kind of like if you are alone in your house and someone just walks in and starts asking you questions then your not gonna talk that your friend did somethingcommited a crime cause you promised that you wouldn't tell anybody!!
    but if the cops come in and talk to you and they say this is a bad situation and there being resonable then thats alright casue it might be doing the wrong thing to betray your friend but you also did a good thing by telling the cops
    but that was just a example
    also is alcopone as good as everybody says it is??



    oh and Josh what part are you most fond of right know?? whats your favorite character why???

    1)it's okay if you do the wrong thing if it doesn't burn down houses.
    2)it is your decision to do the right or wrong thing.


    Misha and Uri remind me of "me and my brother" because Uri some times hurts Misha and I some times hurt my brother.

    1)well yeah it's okay when you have the right reason, well it is okay to yourself. like if you need food, your homeless, and you steal bread or steal stuff to build shelter.

    2) we as individuals decide if what your doing is right or of course wrong. there are many choices of right or wrong in life and in the books, again people choose right and wrong for them selves

    i think misha has real feelings for janina.

    1) I think that on some circumstances it is okay to do the wrong thing for the right reason, sometimes. If there is no reason to steal or lying or any other bad things that the characters do in the books.

    2) The person that is making the choise if they think it is bad or not.

    Hey has anyone from Al Capone, Gideon or Milkweed found interesting relationships?

    I found one with Moose and his dad that surprised me. His dad got mad at him because he was helping with the laundry.Moose's dad also got mad because he thought Moose was selling it.

    1)Only sometimes is it good to do the right thing for the wrong reason because,for example,it is ok to lie if you are sparing someones feelings,lying because you are planning a surprise for them,exc.exc.

    2)The person who catches you in the scene of the crime and yourself too.Only you can tell whether or not you are making a good decision.

    1) I think that when it is okay to do the wrong thing is when you are helping yourself or other people.

    2) I think that it is the one who is going to do the right or wrong decision should be the one to pick wether or not to do that action.

    Like when Misha Pilsudski steals the tin of cream puffs and treats from that rich lady, she didn't mind at all,but Misha probably was very excited....... until he ran that corner and dropped all of them!!

    1) It's okay to lie about something if it doesn't hurt anybody and if it's not that important to the person.

    2) Us because its our desition if we lied or not.
    For example: Sometimes Moose lie's because he doesn't want to hurt Natalie's feeling's.

    1)Sometimes its OK to do the wrong thing for the right reason to keep yourself or someone else safe.Or you could do the wrong thing for the right reason in keeping a secret that is for someone's B-day and other stuff.

    2)If someone is being picked on you could put yourself in their place to keep them safe. That could be doing something wrong for the right reason

    it depends on what your doing and whats the reason for you doing wrong. cause if your stealing just to steal then it doesn't help anyone just you, but there are exceptions if your stealing because you need food its kind-of okay when you stealing from someone that has more then they need, also that person that doesn't have enough has more of a risk of dieing then the person there stealing it from as I said its okay to steal if you'll die if you don't have it. who decides if you stealing is wrong or right know one both of the sides thinks is ether right or wrong. In the first chapter we herd of Janina I thought Janina was a rich-ish Jewish girl that was funny and loved to laugh and stuff I didn't think she would end up being a brat and I hope she doesn't say this way.

    1) I personally think it's okay to do the wrong thing only if it's for a good cause.

    Example: How the Tar Man stole food so he wouldn't die of starvation.

    2) The author of the book should decide if it's right or wrong.

    I found it really interesting how Kate & Peter were blurring at the same time & to the same place ! But then Gideon called them back to 1763 :(

    i think it is ok to do the wrong thing only if it for the right reason. like when misha steals food for the orphanage and when he steals food to give to janinas family. that would be the only time i would ever give a good reason to steal or do the wrong thing at the right time. and only the person who is reading the book is the one who decides weather or not it is right or wrong. so really the only person who thinks it is wrong would be the only person who doesnt think that doing the wrong thing for the right reason would ever be good.

    i think that misha really deserves a friend and he is only tring to make another friend and that he is only doing what he can to keep janina as a frend.and the way he is going to janinas house s lot he must realy like her. so i think that you are right lidya he really does have feelings for her and i dont think that he has ever had a real friend before.

    I really like the book because it has a lot of relationship types like the one between Moose and Piper. Not a very strong one. I mean like when they were splitting the earnings from the shirt washing and Natalie was dividing it and she said she had to split it between 4 people and Piper said no,Moose doesn't get a cut. But then Moose was saying how Piper has big pretty brown eyes.
    It's kind of a confusing relationship.
