Here are some examples, but you are encouraged to come up with your own examples:
Al Capone Does My Shirts: Moose and his mom have very different perspectives on what is best for Natalie. You could discuss the differences and why you think they react the way they do.
Milkweed: Uncle Shepsel and Mr. Milgrom have very different responses to life in the ghetto. You could discuss how their responses differ and what you think that says about them as characters.
Gideon the Cutpurse: Gideon and the Tar Man both faced very difficult times and chose to steal in order to keep from starving. While this action was the same, there is a significant difference in the effect that this decision had on each man. Discuss why you think Gideon was able to rise above that lifestyle and become a "better" man, and why the Tar Man slipped deeper and deeper into the life of crime.
Maggie here
ReplyDeletehi well I'm in the Gideon group so I am going to talk about the Tar man and Gideon: their stealing.
Gideon
I think that Gideon realized that stealing wasn't the right thing to do and that just because he stole before for someone else dose not mean that he should steal for him self. . .
The Tar Man
I think that the Tar Man thought that because he was hanged that all humans must be punished.
The Tar Man is thinking that being punished is a good thing to do.
punished like stealing . . .
What i find interesting is when moose is at school and he just walked out of the bathroom and Piper comes up and wants to actually be his friend! I was like WOW. But then i read on and found out that she wanted something. Al Capone people what would you think if Piper wanted to be moose's friend?
ReplyDeleteIn Al Capone does my shirts moose has a very difficult position like when Natalie was being very difficult she would not listen to moose she was kicking and screaming and i felt really bad for moose because he had to take care of her and she was being really bratty there were no adults around so moose was pretty brave like if i was with her my head would blow up i would not know what to do
ReplyDeleteI think that Gidion was a better man becuse he saw what he was doing wrong and the tar man did not see it. But hay, they lived. Have cool things happend in Al Capon.
ReplyDeleteIn Al Capone when Moose was trying to calm Natalie down because she wanted to go and see 105 who was a con, and Moose didn't want his sister being friends with a con. Natalie was angry with Moose because he did not let her go and see the con. They both faced a difficult time and choose to work against each other.
ReplyDeletei cant beleve olek got hanged. i was crying when i heard that.
ReplyDeletejanina and mishas, perspective on the ghetto. misha' s perspective: this place is horrible but not so bad at times. janina' s perspective: this place stinks. tata can we go home.
ReplyDeleteuncle shepsel does not want to go to the concentration camps. he has has a book called "how to be a lutherean". he doesn't want other people to sufer there so he tells them there is still time to escape. but all the people think that the camps are awesome.
ReplyDeletebecause this wacky guy named the piper tells people that the camps are some magical place called "candy mountain" so all the people think that they are awesome.
hey gideon people tell me how the tar man became the"tar man".
misha and janina are affected by that because they seem to have different perspectivesof there lifes because misha is used to being hit in the back by a bone to get lice out and janina thinks that they are beating echother. so i think that they have bine affected by that because they get to see different life stilles.
ReplyDeletecaelan
i think uncle shepsel and mr.milgrom had diffrent lives bye doing difrent things and got stuff difrent ways and difrent things like food and other stuff i think they had simmaler lives but difrent things at difrent times.
ReplyDeletemr.milgrom is always in the happy part of the world because he is always trying to make everything better so he can try to make peace. but uncle shepsle is always dening the fact that he is a jew instead he thinks he is going to make people think he is a lutheran so that is how i think the character differents are very different
ReplyDeletePeter and Kate were brought back in time by a generator because The Tar Man grabbed the generator so he could get revenge on his town
ReplyDeleteKate is afraid of no ever Seeing her parents again
Peter is all for getting that generator back and defeating the tar man
Natalie and Moose have different perspectives on 105 because Natalie thinks he is nice and has learned from his mistakes. Moose thinks he still hasn't changed and is afraid of what 105 could have done to her because the Warden said that some of the cons haven't seen a woman in 20 years.
ReplyDeleteMaggie i agree about Gideon trying to be a better person.
ReplyDeleteJosh do you still hanker for Gideon??
I don't really cherish the really long chapters!!!!
Hi Mr.Coleman it's Devki
ReplyDeleteI wanted to redue the question of the week.
Moose:
Moose is close to Natalie as a brother, but he feels that making her be ten each year isn't fair because she deserves to be 16.
Mom:
Moose's mom thinks that making Natalie be ten each year will keep her safe and if she's 16 she will not be loved.
I think this about both of these charactors because they both react in different ways for Natalies age
I think Moose and Natalie have a different perspective of what's right and not right.
ReplyDeleteMoose
It's just wrong to have your older sister infront of you naked. Running around refusing to put clothes on.
Natalie
Natalie just thinks she's a baby, sometimes and want's/like's to be treated like one. Natalie is 15 year's old and thinks Moose, her little brother should be baby sitting her instead of her the 15 year old should be baby sitting him.
Who's make's more sense? The boy complaining about seeing his 15 year old sister in front of him refusing to get dressed or the 15 year old girl who thinks she's the baby?
I think Moose is right but Natalie might be mentally challenged too.
why do you think uri traded on the jews?
ReplyDeletemisha and janina are the same but different. the way that there the same is that they smugglers
ReplyDeleteand they life different.
piper is a funny dude because he tolled that there are candy mountains!
the Tar man and Gideon used to be alike in many ways. like they both stole from the rich to live a bad life. now Gideon became a non evil person and a kind soul. the tar man is still the same person he is now.
ReplyDeleteTo: Haylee(;
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and i was wondering who your favorite character was?
To: Maggie
Gideon and the cutpurse sound's great i think if i ever read that i would like the tar man.
I know Kat. I was like Whaa?? It didn't make much sense with how she'd been acting and behaving around him. And if Piper really DID want to be Moose's friend it would definitly be an unexpected twist or in other words irony.
ReplyDeleteIn MilkWeed MIsha and Janina both have problems with stealing because
ReplyDeleteif they don't steal they will starve and so will Mr.Milgrom and Uncle Shepsel.
When Russia bombed them almost all the food was gone and now they are on the verge of starving!
And plus all of the other orphans are outside their windows begging for food.
so how is Gideon and Alcapone.
Blog #2
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody in Al Capone like what Moose did when he stood up for Natalie's Age?
I thought that Moose was brave to do this because he stood up to his mom... "Natalie is 16 not ten." If I were the dad I would have tears like the dad in the book. I would be like him in a way because I wouldn't know who's side to go on.
Not including the part with Moose and Natalie
I think that Misha and Janina have different attitudes about living in the ghetto. Misha has a positive attitude about living in the ghetto, even though he has to climb through a two brick hole in the middle of the night to find food he still enjoys doing it for his family and the orphans. But Janina gets irritable when she is in the ghetto. Even when her dad is trying to make her smile she still pushes him away.
ReplyDeleteyea caelan they do and its weired i think it did tooo and i just want to say kudos to you and how far are you in the book i just got done
ReplyDeleteHaha taylor, MilkWeed doesn't really have any long chapters, but if it did i would really not like this book!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletejordin i like the way you talk about mr. milgrom and uncle shepsel, and how their opinions differ from each other
ReplyDeleteI think that since the Tar Man was hung and was considered a "bad person so he had to do bad things. So that's why he does bad things.
ReplyDeleteAs for Gideon I think that in the beginning he stole things such as food so he could survive, but then stopped cause he realized that when you do bad things consequences will happen.
& for everybody else how is your books going
?!
in the ghetto Mr. Milgrom and Janina are very different even thou there related. like Janina is so negative to the ghetto and is obsessed the trains by the trains, but Mr.Milgrom is the opposite he try's to do the old things, the things he did when he was out of the ghetto also he doesn't like or trust the trains. I think it says that Janina is to trusting and will do anything to get out of the ghetto even if that means getting on the trains
ReplyDeleteHi im in the Gideon group so i will be talking about the tar man and Gideon.
ReplyDeleteGideon- I think Gideon stopped because he noticed that he didnt want his life to go to that way so he rewrote his life and went in a different direction.
Tar Man- Now the tar man just wanted to get back at everybody so he is still doing it.
Is the tar man as good as Mr. Coleman says he is? tell me what makes him a good vilan?
ReplyDeletehow are all of your books going?
ReplyDeletei think that the tar man changed the day he was hung. from a good person to a vicious evil man with a dark heart.and now he steals. and there's Gideon a person of stealing and hunger. he wasn't always like this. he changes from a life of a thief to a life of good will.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lydia, Janina is pushing mr. milgrom away I thinks its because shes listening to uncle shepsel.
ReplyDeleteAl Capone group what kind of writing does the author write? Like humorous, sad or serious. And do you like the authors writing?
ReplyDeleteMilkweed group what is a part in the book that touched you or made you say "WOW? And what part and why it did.
I think Uncle Shepsel and Mr. Milgrom have very different prospective from the food standpoint. Uncle Shepsel loves the food that Misha steals for them and never really thanks him for it. However, Mr. Milgrom thanks and takes Misha in for it.
ReplyDeleteTo: Riley
ReplyDeleteRiley whats your favorite part of milkweed so far and why??????
people in milkweed who is your favorite character and why?
ReplyDeleteTaylor, I really agree with you about the long chapters, I think if the author shortened the chapters the book would be much better. In my book Gideon got kidnapped by the footpads & I was speechless, I never thought that there would be kidnapping ! That part was very visual & action packed ! Brianna is there any action packed parts in your book
ReplyDelete?
Why does every body like the tar man? Is he as good as every body says he is? Please, someone from Gideon, tell me what is soooo amazing about the tar man. Oh and Al Capone people, has Natalie changed at all throughout the book?
ReplyDeleteIn Al Capone do they use Alcatraz, and if they do have anybody got out yet?
ReplyDeletemisha is really tring to keep everybody safe but janina is just being suburn and she can get them both killed, if iwas misha i would have already tieed her up and put her on the couch. to teach her i would have left her on her own.
ReplyDeletecody my book is going great you should try and read it !how is it for you?
ReplyDeleteThis is Maggie talking and I am talking to you, Brandon. The Tar Man Became the Tar Man By: He was hanged for something he did not do. The Guy who was in charge of the hanging people was cold so he cut down the tar man early and then he was coated in tar and put in a grave even if he was not dead. He got out of the grave with a broken neck and also covered in tar. That is why He is called the Tar Man
ReplyDeleteLydia, the tar man became the tar man when he was hanged. Then he broke his neck and landed in tar. That all.
ReplyDeleteNoah i liked how you said"i like rock covered with cement, topped with bird turd and surrounded by water"
ReplyDeletebut not in thoese words but i still it it how u said it and i thought and thought and thought how old is Natalie and why on her brith day that she's always turning 10 and why?
Kat what was yout favorite part of the book? and why?
ReplyDeleteHolly, Do you think that Natalie and Moose are gunna have a stronger relationship?
ReplyDeletei think that Gennifer did an amazin job writting the book Al Capone Does My Shirts. She says"The entire month of february and half of march,it rains.Drizzling rain, driving rain, lightning storms and thunder. Big fat sloppy drops, little misty ones that sting when they come down." Whne i read that i was like wow this book is amazin it made me want to read the whole book and i really like that scene where she talking about rain and i love this amazin, awesome book
